WOW. This news just broke at midnight! The tools that most of us use in one way or another to make stuff are about to be from one company. Adobe announced they’re going to buy up Macromedia. I’m excited and curious about what’s going to happen, the little vector hamsters in my head are thinking of all the interesting things that this means for content creation, mobile devices and publishing! Make friend Mike Chambers from Macromedia has a post on this too.

What will this mean for Macromedia Flash player for Linux. Will Adobe find it in their best interest to continue developing these plugins for Linux? Or will all us nerds have to view the web with a good chunk missing out of the experience?
So, Adobe bought Macromedia for a few bil. As in billion.
Interesting way to start your week if you work in creative digital arts. How will this affect our respective fields? As a web designer, flash designer, and sometimes print designer, this is either good or bad news for me — but it’s definitly news that will affect my future. Let’s hope that it’s going to mean lower prices and better products. And, finally… the bloody, bitter end of GoLive.
I use quite a bit of Adobe software now:
Photoshop
Illustrator
InDesign
Acrobat
Flash
Dreamweaver
How did owners of stock in either/both of these companies fare?
Is this now a monopoly?
won’t adobe/macr need to sell off some of their tools like fireworks, livemotion, etc… when adobe bought aldus they had to sell off freehand…at least that’s what i heard.
