Kitchen Flickr Photo Frame Project

kitchen.jpgDoing the dishes is really boring- but I think I have something to help pass the time. VNC to set the slideshows. Also on the list- a full screen RSS viewer to read headlines.

i got an audrey on ebay for about $40 not too long ago.. Perfect for what i need it for. I use it mostly to do a slideshow of images i create with perl/php scripts from weather xml feeds, rss blog feeds, and xml ical feeds. (Current/Forecast Weather, Engadget/Slashdot, ToDo List/Today’s Appts.)

Another idea, albeit much more low tech, is to listen to the radio while washing dishes. I pretty much get all of my world news this way; NPR puts all their shows on the net for free shortly after they air. All Things Considered seems to be the de facto general news show, although I’m not an NPR connoisseur. It works well enough for me to just bring my laptop down to the living room, hook it up to the stereo, point the speaker at the kitchen, and scrub to the news.

Using my RadioShark, I can record radio programs for later listening. Using this idea and installing iTunes would allow someone to listen to older programs while doing the dishes.

hey there phillip! i haven’t seen you in ages! anyway, great stuff! ever since i became a tablet pc junkie, i have hopelessly neglected all my pdas so i have started making photo frames out of them… wow, this photo frame fad is really catching on!

anyway, i used my old toshiba e750 and had a really nice frame built for it. i installed an ftp server on it to transfer pictures to it and use pocket controller to control it (basically to restart photo viewer slide show). the e750′s built-in wifi really makes this nice since the photo frame is on the wall in the living room.

people get a real kick out of it. next on my list – my trust palm tungsten t3 will become a panorama viewer ;)
