Making Widgets

wid.jpgMac OS X Tiger is out today, so that means we’re going to see a ton of really neat widgets, if you want to get started building here’s an overview…Based on Web Kit technologies, Dashboard Widgets are created using a mix of HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. This extends the ability to develop Widgets to a very wide audience. If you know how to create a web page, then you know how to create a capable Widget. Link. We’ll have some examples once we make a few too.

So, what types of Widgets do people want to see? Personally, I’d love a slick RSS reader to sit in the Dashboard while continuing to launch links in the browser back on the desktop. Anyone else?

I’d like to see a Vonage voicemail widget that gives you your recent caller ID stuff, voicemail count and lets you play the messages. I don’t think that’d be too hard to do, since it’s all up on the web already… of course it’s too hard for me to do ;-)

pdcryan, I also want a vonage widget. I’m no programmer, but I’m good building interfaces, so I decided to write the detailed idea (screenshots et all) in my blog.
