I’m not on Sprint- let me know if this is useful. Most cell phones have a built in modem to allow for data transfer, all you need is a data cable and the cell modem drivers. Sprint has a decent data network that will give you access to approximately 240kbs of bandwidth, much faster that your standard dialup. [via] Link.

It works, but with a headache. Many data cables will transfer data, but will not power the phone, and data transmission hogs all kinds of juice. So unless you have an auxilary power input, you may find your CDMA piggybacking a little short-lived. It’s fine for checking email, posting to a blog or updating feeds, but you won’t be able to download tunes all the way to grandma’s house. Of course, if you were planning to do that on a 144-230k connection, you were going to be frustrated anyhow.
mmm its not jsut sprint. I get 100-200kbps with a 1X connection, and around 600kbps with an EV-DO signal on my E815 over bluetooth. check HoFo for instructiosn for almost any phone
I used a Samsung D900 phone as a wireless modem just on the EDGE network for the past year before I got my Android phone. I even got it working via bluetooth so I didn’t need to have anything on me but a charger. Some people contributed some gateway info so for T-Mobile, AT&T and O2 here is the data
