I guess they intend to expand this into a fully autonomous unit that uses lidar and the iSight camera for guidance and obstacle avoidance. Right now they control it over a wireless connection and use ichat to provide a remote video feed”. Link.

I worked with George Storm on his MacMini robot at the 2005 ADHOC/MacHack programming conference. We got the MacMini robot to successfully autonomously track objects using vision control. To demonstrate, we wrapped some green gaffers tape around our legs and the robot would follow us around.
