Lexus peel out cheat code…

LexusJust like video game cars, real cars have cheat codes too…“Here’s a(n) [alleged] way to disable the traction/skid control systems called VDIM on the Lexus IS: “start the car with the parking brake on…then foot brake twice. (keep the foot brake down). then parking brake twice (keep it down ) and repeat till skid light is on the dash…..it will reset when you restart the car” [via] Link.

  1. Why not buy a real car like a BMW, realizing you might actually want to drive it hard, they give you a button on the dash to do this ;-)

BMW also actually has “cheat codes” that allow “launching” of the car (launching is a way to accelerate from a standing start more quickly than when using traditional methods, usually involving timing/fuel cut to limit the engine RPM while the throttle is fully depressed). It’s fairly well documented:
    such as here

There is a whole culture evolving involving DIY ECU code. I have written code for my (now dead) DSM (in HC11 assembly) that gave me a two-step rev limiter. In a turbo, AWD car this allows for insane launches, because the turbo can spool up without the car moving yet, giving maximum torque off the line.
