Here’s something to make when it’s cold outside. Snow! This site has a couple of snow machine designs that can be built from stuff you might already have (an air compressor, a high pressure sprayer, various plumbing fittings). There also has a page describing the physics involved in snow making. Thanks J. Wolf! Link.

I was actually disappointed with the plans I found on that site, the snowguns were bulky and had lots of pricy, useless parts. I bought a set of plans from SNS Second Nature Home Snowmaking at http://www.snow-maker.com and it ended up costing me about $50 less overall (including the price of the plans!) than the free ones mentioned above, mainly because they were so simple and didn’t have unneeded parts. And they made just as good, if not better, snow!

Those comments above are sooo funny that company is selling the free plans that are on the http://www.snowathome.com website. Talk about a disappointment?
What is disappointing is that SNOWatHOME gives you the plans for free and then sells you a set of $3 nozzles for $50 and says only those will work. What is even more disappointing is that I bought the plans from Second Nature Snowmaking last year, at which point SNOWatHOME didn’t have those free plans. Now, this year they are giving away exact copies of the ones that I bought, in other words, they ripped off Second Nature Snowmaking’s plans…talk about disappointing.
Where can you get the nozzels for $3 ? Will any misting/fog nozzle do ? What about the other nozzle? I’d love to have a go at one of these.
Thanks
There’s some free snowmaker plans here as well http://www.makesnow.net/products.shtml#freeEguides
