Flickr member Filmosity’s modded a CVS disposable video camera to include a built-in USB cable for easy transfer of video – “…Side view of the CVS One time use Camcorder, hacked with a USB Cable. The cable now has some velcro that keeps it flush to the side of the cam. Still a few more mods I’m going to make to the cam, including changing the logos that show up when you turn the cam on and off.” Link. More CVS camera hacking here.

I feel like an idiot, but can someone please explain this Flickr to me? The link provided shows three pictures of a CVS Camcorder with a USB cable hanging out the side. In all three pictures the unit is sealed and there is no information on how the hack was done. Maybe I’m overlooking a link to the instructions?
click the “more cvs camera hacking” link here in the blog post – the flickr set i linked to is just another example of building on all the hacks and how-tos we cover here. there are 4-5 complete how-tos on the makezine site, or linked from make to check out if you want to build your own.
Hey, I did this with 3 of the CVS cameras about a month ago.
It irks me, too, when people post photos without tutorials.
To paraphrase Shania Twain, “So you’re an engineer. That don’t impress me much.”
yah, i wish everyone documented projects – but, i try and link to all the how-tos and projects AND other ones so everyone can get inspired – what usually happens is someone will see links to their projects and then write a how-to if enough people are interested. perhaps post a (nice) comment over on flickr, we’d love to have another cvs hack/howto.
this thing has been hacked for a long time, (even with all the hurdles pure digital tecnologies has thrown at the hacking camera hacking community). a usb plug in it is nothing special. the community can be found at: http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/index.php
