Make an igloo…

Igloo-051-S2
What can you do with the record breaking snow in NYC? Make igloos. This tool looks pretty handy, it’s a cubic enclosure on a pole made for forming your igloo building blocks. Looks like you could make your own on the cheap version from PVC pretty easily too. [via] Link.

You may be suprised how difficult it would be to slap together an igloo maker that is also practical to take backpacking. The secret to this tools success is it’s rigidity as a three sided box. The rigidity is what lets you really pack down the snow, and really packing down the snow is what makes your igloo a success.

I’m sure that many of us could make something that would look similar from PVC, but to make something as strong that weighs only only 4lbs? That’s a tall order. I will give serious props to the person who can duplicate the functionality of this tool from the plumbing section of Home Depot.

good point, i was talking about the cube enclosure – i think i’d use an old tool in the shed with a rigid handle if i were to make one (it’s 65 degrees here so i bet that’s not going to happen soon). under 4lbs, fits in backpack, tricky – i think i’d buy one of these (and i suspect a lot of people will too if that’s what they have planned).
