Make Your Own Mod Disc Dress

Paco Rabanne defined fashion in the 60′s by experimenting with different kinds of materials. Says Rabanne in 1966, “I defy anyone to design a hat, coat or dress that hasn’t been done before…The only new frontier left in fashion is the finding of new materials“. Enter in the disc dress (left photo) made of small plastic discs that are connected by jump rings to create, as it was back then, a new kind of dress. Rabanne even created a version of the dress as a DIY kit (right photo), fully stylized in a clear plastic (logo blazoned) suitcase. Today decades later, a few of these rare vintage DIY Paco Rabanne kits are being sold for upwards of $700! Of course as Makers we know that if you really, really, REALLY want to make your own mod disc dress, you will. Just calculate your measurements, head on over to a hardware store, and get your own supplies to make your own mod disc dress without having to make a huge dent in your bank account. [ via ] Link.

I vaguely remember having some sort of “toy” kit version of this in the 70′s. You could hook little discs togehter to make skirts, necklaces, bracelets and the likes. Does anybody else remember this or know what it was called?
