Cool costume! I can’t help humming the beastie boys “Intergalactic” when I see that robot costume
Cool costume!
Reminds me of the robot in the beastie boys “intergalactic” video
bitchin’. Needs claws to steal old people’s medicine.
Wow, that brings back memories. My parents have an old photo of me that’s nearly identical.
My costume didn’t have arms, though.
Thanks for all the great comments. I wish I would have kept a photo log of the entire build process. When my 6 year old son asked me to make him a robot costume I decided to use the classic “Sci-Fi B Movie” adaptation. I used two cardboard boxes to make the head and body; spray painted them silver and added some distressed metal touches with model paint. I also added some old circuit boards I had sitting around, to give it a more realistic look. I also added small pieces of cardboard to give it a “patched-up” look. I even used small metal thumb tack to simulate rivets. The LED are simply throwies without the magents. The eyes and mouth are kitchen strainers. The arms and legs are dryer vent. The rocket pack on the back is two 2 liter bottles with solo cups attached to the bottom and an old Pentium 3 fan heatsink attached to the back.
Not included in the pics are the black gloves he will be wearing to cover his hands. He is very excited about wearing it for halloween.
The total cost was less than $20.
