Niles sent one of his MAKE stops, he writes – “After seeing the post on Skycraft Parts & Surplus I just had to mention American Science and Surplus! They’re located in the Chicago, IL and Milwaukee, WI area and are great stores to explore… Make sure to read the labels on the items, some of them can be really funny!” – Link.

‘Glad you mentioned them, Niles. Be sure to send away for the paper catalogue. It’s great, as well as being packed full of good junk.
Fantastic place, back when I was a kid My parents would take me there on my birthday. Last year my sister moved into a house just a mile or two away. Whenever I visit I stop by there to get stuff.
I’ve been getting stuff from them for 25 years or so — AS&S’ catalogues are worth getting just for the snarky commentary — they have *everything* and their stores are deadly…you can’t leave without piles of stuff you “might be able to use”.
Does anybody know of a store like AS&S in the San Francisco Bay area? I miss AS&S since I moved away from Chicago and would like to find a local replace…er.. supplement!
Er, just found my own answer further down on the Make Blog page!
Sigh,
I used to live 20 minutes from their storefront.
they carry about twice as many cool things in the store as the catalog. (harder to find stuff)
Now I am in Austin, TX anyone found a good source down here?
