Making a hovercraft is well within the capabilities of anyone who’s got some basic tools, time and a leaf blower! Find a friend and make two, or three, or four. If enough people make them, we may just have to have a worldwide shovercraft tournament this spring!
But don’t wait until then, a hovercraft will work on any flat surface… even snow! With more power, it could be possible to float on water too. Many opportunities for improvement and innovation await the shovercraftonaut!

Smaller gas-powered leafblower on the back, on a swivel with a control mechanism between your legs = steering and thrust?
Industrial fan = electrical cords, which tether you to the world. tsk, tsk!

cool hover craft.
im goning to bild a hover craft too!
First hover craft a buddy and i made was in highschool, electric (120v) variety which i “borrowed” from the folks, twin car batteries and twin radiator fans from a couple of Saturn’s at the junk yard. 24v to the 12v motors on the rad’ fans and 200 feet of power cord.
in all reality not much power is needed for lift, our 3′X 6′ hover craft was capable of lifting/supporting over 700 lbs.
current a second hover craft is underway, 4′ X 6.5′ 36cc leafblower for lift, and a 3hp 4stroke briggs horizontal drive for thrust with belt drive. still in the works, just joined the site will upload pictures as it progresses.
i guess i neglected to read the no-self promoting sections until about .3 seconds after i hit “submit” just wanted to say that i was not and am not trying to belittle yours or anyone else’s project. more so meant to say, it does not take much airpower to create enough lift when properly vented from the skirt to the plenum thus water travel should not be an issue…
However i would suggest a failsafe floating option incase of engine failure.
