kudos on the great demo of genrating power from waves. Just need a couple million of those to power a city.
I’m thoroughly impressed by the effectiveness of it. It’s such an awesome idea. I am seriously thinking of trying this out.
the other videos on the site are more interesting and they show a later prototype, it looks like its designed to power the hydrogen gathering device, not so much energy.
whats funny is the guys probably going to get arrested at some point for worry that hes making pipe bombs at the pier.
Here are two images from a wave power plant experiment at Sotra, a small island outside Bergen in Norway. There where one experiment with an similar idea to this featured in MAKE. An large steal tube where mounted to a 10m wall of rock facing the ocean. We are talking about constructions that has a weight of a few tons. Not long after it was finished the winter storms came and one morning the whole thing was gone. The only part left is paces from the bolts in the rocks and a sement block that the tube was standing on.

Full marks for making that neat contraption, but all it’s doing in the video is lighting about a hundred red LEDs. To do that you need maybe two watts, tops.
The state of the art in wave power is already approaching the megawatt class, so I’m uncertain what advantages this… extraordinary… proposal is supposed to offer.
Great project! I’ve heard of this idea before but never saw a prototype. I still can’t understand why these generators are not being produced now on a large scale basis. I can imagine LARGE floating generators just off the coast… Thanks for posting.
I’d like to comminicate with the designer of this wave machine. I think that it could harness wind gusts very
nicely.. as most wind if variable.
