Here’s yet another scheme for a DIY mousetrap that doesn’t starve, decapitate, or Ebola-fy the guts of the vermin in your house. In fact, with all the cereal in the trap here, that’s gonna be one mighty mouse by the time you release him in the field across the street. Oh, I get it, he’ll be so freakin’ fat, he won’t be able to scamper back across the street when you catch and release.

I don’t think my mice will fit through the hole.

  2. I suggest putting a daub of white paint on your captured mouse’s back so you will recognize him/her when he/she returns to your buffet.

  3. You’d be amazed by how small a hole the little bastards can squeeze through.

My only concern is the (20) holes near the bottom. A desperate mouse could, very quickly, enlarge them enough to make its escape.

    Neat idea, though.

“Across the street” isn’t nearly far enough to keep mice from coming back into your house. At least a mile away is more or less required to make sure they don’t come back.

This same trap works very well for catching minnows too. Put some dry dog food in there and toss it in the lake on a rope. Pull it in tomorrow and you will commonly have more minnows than you would immagine could fit in that space – sort of like a can of sardines.

    How does it work?
