I’ve been using a sling-shot and fishing reel combo for about 5 years now. Works great, and works even better (goes higher) if you fill the reel with some of that hi-tech braided stuff like “Spiderwire”.
I found that putting 6′ or so of heavy (40-50#) mono on the end for a shock leader helps a little to keep the weight from spinning around a limb and tieing itself up.
