Wikipedia on Orion -
The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated south[b] of Orion’s Belt. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. M42 is located at a distance of 1,270±76 light years[2] and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth.

Does he mention what his “rig” is anywhere? Maybe I’m missing it somehow.
Here’s an image I made of M42 with an old 300D on a 16″ Meade SCT: http://bigsight.org/ben_sinclair/photos/274
It’s not a very long exposure because the scope doesn’t track very well, and I wasn’t autoguiding. Luckily M42 is bright enough that you can get a decent image without much trouble.
Here’s a pic of a Stellacam3 from his astronomy photo set -

I use a Orion ED80 with a stellacam 3 (uncooled) with an atik 0.5 reducer at times, on Atlas EQ-G mount unguided. These images were made from combining R+G+B images in AIP4WIN, I took a series of 9 second exposures through each filter and stacked each filter set and then combined the three stacks to form the color image.
Hope this helps, I am very new to this and I know that others with same and better or lesser equipment can do much better. The light pollution in my town is very high, so I am pleased to see anything at times.
