Awesome 35lb LEGO Heart @ Street Anatomy by Nathan Sawayaâ€™s called “Heartfelt” via Book of Joe.

Nathan writes-

I created an anatomically correct human heart for the Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego. A piece like this is a great tool to help doctors talk to young patients about their own hearts. Hopefully kids will relate to a heart built from a medium that they are familar with.

It took me nearly 100 hours to create this heavy heart, weighing in at 35 pounds. The typical human heart weighs about 10 ounces, so this heart is a bit heavier. It also causes more heartache when dropped on one’s foot.

I would think dropping a real human heart on one’s foot would cause more heartache than dropping a 35 pound lego heart.

These Captchas have got to be the most obnoxious I’ve ever seen, and not everyone wants to log on.

@The Oracle – we reduced the number of characters to type in to 3, there haven’t been any complaints besides yours lately – logging in only takes a second and we support openID too.

because of MAKE’s popularity spammers target us pretty hard – captcha and logging in to comment is common on most sites. we could do email authentication, but i think this is a good balance of convenience and keeping the spam to almost zero now.

You don’t have to justify the need for spam control. I can only imagine the nightmare this blog would become without it. But when real humans have a hard time making out those 3 magic letters, something is wrong. I’m not saying don’t have captchas, I’m saying have some that humans can read unambiguously…like most other sites do.

The one here, could be 5dz, 5cz or 5az. I really can’t tell and I’ll have to guess. I’ve seen others complaining recently, and I’d love to know the stats on how many wrong captchas you get that are right on the second or 3rd try.

@The Oracle – there are only a tiny tiny percentage of users with a problem, most log in, others seem to figure it out ok. out of the thousands of comments there are maybe 1-2 or people who have complained, we went from 5 characters to 3 and solved most of the problems folks were having.
