Garden pallet work table

Homegrown Evolution has a neat garden work table made from a pallet – very simple. It would make great greenhouse shelves, too. I’ve heard that pallets are pretty much all chemically-treated so they don’t rot – does anyone know if this is true?

The last time it was discussed, my experience was I saw very few treated pallets–every once in a while you’d get a darkly stained wood that it would be safe to assume it was treated. This is from about 10 years at work of getting palleted shipments every few months.

Pretty much any warehouse has a surplus of these. They get them in from vendors, and saw them up as needed for their own customers and trucks. A substantial portion are a trifle damaged. They’re usually happy to have you take the unusable ones off their hands.

Here many appear to be made from a type of hardwood (possibly Australian) and are very resinous and hard.

I am very fond of using pallets, but this type of pallet is never used by me.. It really looks interesting.. I will definitely be going to build this pallet for my garden work..
