Once again Sparkfun seem to be selling a breakout board, but not the key components that they use to make it. They sell the trackball separately, but not the hall effect sensors. Not very maker friendly.
They tell you which hall effect sensors they used, and give you the datasheet, so if you were that into it, you know which one to look for. And if you’re that into making that you want an SMD hall effect sensor, I think you’ll know where to look, too, and probably have a list of things already to order from them.
Would it be ideal if SparkFun sold every last component they use in their products? Perhaps, but then they’d be rivaling places like mouser and digikey, and that’s just not their market.
Ease up on them. They make and sell awesome stuff.
