Keep in mind that this only works if the fan is within 2 inches of the soldering iron.
I am working on a mod to this project. A 92MM 12V fan with grills mounted front and back. Use a lockline or other stand to keep the fan level with the board you have it in a vice.
The Batteries will be mounted in a project box that will act as a stand for the fan when it is sitting the work table. There will be a loop of some type so that it can be hung at the level if the solder board in the vice.

Instead of lock line, a creatively bend coat hanger will work well also.
