Energetic Power Flower art sculpture makes light

This whimsical art sculpture, by Art Energy Design, is also a renewable energy display. By incorporating small solar cells into the leaves, and building a small wind turbine out of the flower petals, it is able to store enough energy to keep itself lit by LEDs at night. I can’t imagine that it is technically a very efficient generator of power, however the idea of a rotating flower/wind turbine is neat. Next, I’m hoping for some solar-powered singing flowers a la Alice in Wonderland.

ART you can plug into. The Power Flowers are series of public art works that use art as catalysis to efficiently spread the message of distributed energy production. Generating on site power close to where it is to be used. Between the micro wind turbine and five imbedded solar panels the sculpture harnesses 100 watts of power with keep 12v deep cell batteries charged with 1kw of power. It not only takes car of its own LED lighting demands but features a variety of DC and AC outlets for public use for cell phones, laptops, audio visual, water pumps…..
