Starno on thingiverse tells us the picture is just a realistic render, not an actual print.

We live in a time where the folks at Make Magazine, very familiar with Makerbot, cannot tell the difference between the renders and the printed object.
Given the high quality of the Make editors, this says something about the times we live in…
