Here’s by way of a can-we-still-be-friends for those annoyed by yesterday’s steampunk toilet post. The Museum of the History of Science at Oxford’s Old Ashmolean building is hosting an exhibit of contemporary steampunk art curated by Art Donovan. It runs from today until February 21, 2010. If you’re interested in steampunk and you’re anywhere near the UK during that time it’s probably worth checking out.

See, now this stuff is neat, because it pretends to BE something. It doesn’t take much imagination to see most of these items as artifacts from a parallel history.
I’m not just talking about the level of workmanship, either. I’m talking about the imagination and planning that goes into them.
Beautiful, thank you.
Andy, I was not speaking merely for the toilet. (To be honestly I could not even see the video.) I was speaking more to those claiming that Steampunk has jumped the shark. One bit of kitsch cannot define a movement, an ideal, a vast spirit of adventure and exploration.
Even still, I hesitate to criticise the kitsch (although I’m not above tittering behind my fan), because someone worked hard to create their vision, and in the spirit of goodwill, I have to respect their efforts, if not the end product.
Truce? ~waves a white flag~
Truce? Well, first tell us more about those “lacy petticoats” you mentioned earlier.
