designer hobo barrel (Custom).jpg

Although I’ll admit to some cognitive dissonance at the notion of an expensive custom-made object intended to evoke homelessness, there’s no denying the purely aesthetic qualities of this fireplace by John Briscella. I’d really like to see what it looks like with a fire burning inside, and, while I’m at it, maybe some video of the 5-axis laser cutting out all those little pieces… [via Dude Craft]

  1. …while it definitely looks neat (not to mention rendered*), I think that thing is an accident waiting to happen.

There is nothing to contain the fire/coals/ash/etc., so a good breeze comes along, and the burning material could start whipping out. Granted, the holes look fairly small, but it doesn’t take much to start another fire.

*looks like a majority of things on his site are just 3D models. Not necessarily a bad thing, though.
