Swedish artist Michael Johansson made this life-size dinghy “model kit” from a real boat and related equipment. The pieces of “TOYS’R'US,” as it’s called, are fastened together by a welded tubular frame and painted a uniform gray. Michael has done several of these 1:1 “model” kits made from life-size original objects. [via Dude Craft]

  1. Reminds me of the ‘model’ car on the set of Top Gear.

    • Can you give me an episode from youtube or just pictures of the model? I’m planning to make one from cars in the scarp yard and display it in my living room. Thanks a lot.

Hah! I was just going to write the same exact thing!

Incredible. Can’t get enough “sprue art.” I wish the UK cover to Cory’s book, Makers, was the US cover.

BTW: If you subscribe to the Make: Newsletter ( http://makezine.com/newsletter/ ), and read my new Maker’s Dictionary column there, you know that “sprue” is a term generally applied to all parts of the injection molding frame that are not the pieces being cast, when in fact, “sprue” technically only applies to the injection channels that feed the parts directly. The place (or places) where the mold material enters the mold is called the “gate,” and the larger, outer channels that feed the sprues are called “runners.”
