The Solar Dog prototype charger from Erik Schiegg is a solar panel attached to a dog sweater. I’m not sure how efficient it is, but I could see this being handy. [via recombu]
My Android phone is charged in no time… The dog feels good and I’m feeling good and planet mud is turned a little bit more into planet earth. But this idea would be interesting for farmers around the world, letting their animals collect electricity, too.

What happens when his dog jumps in the lake, or rolls in the mud? I really can’t see how this could work. Nice idea, though.
How is this better then a stationary solar cell left just outside your house? From what i know of dogs, a motion charger might be a little more efficient.
Why would you put a dog sweater on your dog when the sun’s out? Surely that’s a bit cruel?
I believe they’re in Switzerland, which can get quite cold. Leave it to the Swiss to load a dog up… http://saintbernardbarrels.com/
I had a long comment typed up, but realized I’m often too negative in my comments on this site. So my only comment is, please re-post in approx. 3 months.
Nature has already provided the dog with a 24/7 sweater
Why does the dog have to work for me (even it it is just by standing around)?
If this thing were to power a GPS tracker, so I could find my pooch even if he were to get lost, then I’d be all for it.
I agree with Julie – keep up the debate with Pat Buchanan. Sorry I missed you on Hardball (I see you every time you’re on Morning Joe, btw). I must have been napping because otherwise I would have been watching Chris Matthews. my site:
