I love this DIY camera dolly track, built from a $15 “Ivar” Ikea shelving “side unit.”

A few days ago, I found out that the Ivar “wooden ladder” was perfect to use it as rails for my cinema dolly! I can now make some nice sequence shots with this 18€ (USD$15) accessory from Ikea.

[Thanks, Tim Tate!]

18€ is actually about $26USD. A 2x2x8 at the local lumber yard is $2.39, so unless Ivar is 40 feet long, it’s hardly a deal.

The Ivar Side Unit is $15 in the US Ikea catalog. I checked.

  3. Me and some friends built a camera dolly from an old pram, a wooden plank and the remains of a table lamp as an articulated arm for the camera. It actually worked pretty well. No snazzy tracks though.
