The North American Handmade Bicycle show was this past weekend, in Richmond, Virginia. The website for the event and their YouTube channel have some great coverage and some of the jawdropping bike builds that were on display there. Above, Sacha, from Vanilla Workshop, offers a tour of a bike he built for his young daughter. Inspired by roadster automobiles and WWII BMW motorcycles, the bike, with 26″ wheels, is designed to grow and be easily modified as his daughter grows. Really gorgeous, thoughtful work. What a well thought out bike. I love the “grow with the rider concept”. The styling is really cool and nostalgic.
I was pretty knocked out by the design, too. I too love that WWII BMW motorcycle look and think it really does capture that feel.
And yeah, really smart idea to design a bike that grows with the person. He didn’t say how old his daughter is. I’d like to see her on the bike to get some idea for person-bike proportions. Does seem like 26″ wheels are big for a kid’s bike, but again, depends on size/age of the child.
