By George Hart for the Museum of Mathematics

What cool things have you made with magnets lately? Anything like the above dodecahedral construction?

These geometric sculptures are the creations that resulted from Robert Hodgin playing with thousands of small magnetic spheres and cylinders.

I especially like his geometric forms which remind me of Ernst Haeckel’s radiolaria drawings.

The possibilities for making beautiful geometric constructions are unlimited.

- Introducing “Math Monday”

These remind me of Rose Art’s ‘Magnetix’ sets… in which I build tetrahedron and other various polyhedra and my son gets a kick out of maniacally destroying them for me. Gotta love the 3 year old!
Those are just gorgeous.
