Robot uprising jokes are getting a bit stale, I suppose, so I’ll pass on the obvious Terminator allusions this time. Plus this hulking tracked demolition machine from Sweden’s Husqvarna Construction Products is remote controlled, not autonomous, and so is really more a giant R/C car on steroids, with a massive jackhammer arm, than it is a true robot. Still, “awesome” comes to mind. [via BotJunkie]

I’ll bet the contractors who had to tear down the Rocky Flats, atomic bomb factory wished they had an army of these. I wonder if they’re using them at Hanford. You could put cameras on them and send them into hazardous environments without the guilt of all your workers dieing slow, painful deaths in their later years.

  I’ve seen remote controlled Bobcats used in dangerous territory to dig with. The Polish used them. I’d guess that the Military has some better homegrown tech for remotely dealing with IEDs and UXO than modified bobcats, but i haven’t seen it in person yet.

This is a pretty good machine although we tend to used Brokk gear to do nuclear decommissioning….and have done for a few years now. great gear whoever they come from and versatile. we’re putting one upside down on a hydraulically driven telescopic mast to do some very hard decommissioning work here in the UK.
