Prompted by the Circuit Board Bench that we posted yesterday, commenter GuyInMilwaukee pointed us to his beautiful Computer Board Table. It’s actually made of two tables, one on the inside to hold the computer boards, and one on the outside, that acts as the surface of the piece. Shadyman asked him how he chose the components to display, and it turns out that they are from his first computer:
It’s mainly made up of boards/drives from old Intergraph 6000 series machines built in the late 80s early 90s. They had nice big boards.
It was a good way to keep around my first real computer after I could no longer find parts to keep it working, an Intergraph 6880 with Edge II graphics. I learned computer modeling, rendering and animation on it and think of it as a mentor. There are also old 2800 baud modem parts and other random parts collected over the years.
No real pattern other than just getting it all to fit together like a puzzle. The LED lights along the perimeter worked out better that I had hoped. I have it wired so it automatically goes on when it gets dark.

WOW!!!!!!!
computer kampuuteer

I can’t imagine moving this would be fun at all. Better hire some movers JUST for that bad boy!
That is awesome! I’d love on in my office.

Unbelievable…That DEFINITELY QUalifies as Art! Seriously incredible Creativity and Vision. That is one Amazing Looking Final Product!! KUDOS!
Very nice. I bet they are 2400 bps modems, not 2800.
I’m not impressed enough. I have seen something like this and much better. It’s a PC where it’s CPU is also embedded on the table and glass. And it has a good color scheme of blue when it is switch on.
If you’re thinking of the original Microsoft Surface tables, then of course its going to be better. One question, would you pay $10,000 for a Microsoft product?
amazing creativity
You are genius!!
Excellent! You have done a great job.
This is truly a table for a geeks paradise. As much as I love technology and having things that are unique and different around the home, I just can’t see this table anywhere. Now, throw a chromed up V8 under the glass, and now we’re talking.
every geek needs on of these
I want one
i like it !
this is an act of a wizard. If only i can be like him.
I’ll just say this: “Shut up and take my money!”
Dude, I thought this was bad a** just looking at the picture… Then I read you have it wired to photo sensor / timer which is pretty sweet too, then you say you used the parts from your first computer to build it!? MAN, thats f***ing killer in my opinion, haha I want one of these
How Classic!
Lol. I know people who hang them on the wall. But I like this idea.

That’s a rather useful way to recycle old circuit boards. The circuit board table is different but I like it. I’d have one in my man cave.
You post inspired me into making my own computer parts coffee table. Like the author’s, it is made from dark walnut but I designed it differently.
Here is the link: http://bitsofmymind.com/2013/03/11/the-derelict-computer-parts-sarcophagus-or-coffee-table-if-you-prefer/
Thanks for the idea Make and cheers to the orignal author!
