Here’s a nice homebrew 3d globe, by Russian maker riko. He used a pair of homemade coils to (technically wirelessly) transmit AC power to the device, which then uses an AVR processor and shift registers to power the LEDs. The original is in Russian, however Google translate does a passable translation into English. Source and schematic are available, however I wasn’t able to figure out what format the schematic is in.

  1. After running strings on Globe_32LEDs.lay, It looks like the file was stored in a directory called “sprint_layout.” Googling those words, I find this http://www.abacom-online.de/uk/html/sprint-layout.html.
