Are you sick of slick black plastic enclosures that collect fingerprints and smudge marks? Sure, you could go out and buy a case for your mobile, but that just adds more bulk to something you’re ultimately going to stuff into a pocket. This DIY case mod from xda-developers member mhaedo remedies the fingerprint collector issue with a couple of coats of Plasti Dip. Adding only a thin layer of gripy material to the surface of the battery cover eliminates the smudges and enhances the overall look and feel of the device. [via theGadgets]

  1. Actually, I’m far more tired of the devices that come with a rubberised coating like this already applied… because they *never* last. A few days in a pocket and the coating starts flaking off, leaving black crap everywhere and looking really awful.

  2. A very good idea, I did not know that there is such a thing. I have often enough been angry at the fingerprints and smudge marks on black plastic enclosures. I will try it and then hope that the gripy material prevents the fingerprints really. It would feel well if it functions.

I have an Amstrad hand-held organiser from the late 1980s that has (or rather had) a rubberised coating. Over the years, it has become so sticky that I had to handle it with rubber gloves when I took it to Dorkbot Bristol:

It’s now stickier than, say, adhesive tape, and the stickiness comes off on your hands when you handle it. Hope the modern coatings last better than this!

  4. Damn, it looks sexy.
