I’m sure some makers work with stainless without understanding the risks. Here’s a great article written by my friend Lee Sonko when, as part of the Flaming Lotus Girls, he worked on the Serpent Mother.

I’m not sure if some of the suggestions were meant to be tongue-in-cheek, just plpain cheeky, or typos, but I had to love these:
“The dust is much less toxic than fumes but should be treated with care. Burning and smoking it should be done with caution.”
People will smoke a lot of things, I guess!
“Do not eat your work clothes.”
Now, THAT’S good advice!
All that aside, an excellent article…

It pays to educate yourself about the materials you will be working with. Some are obvious fire hazards, others present long term health hazards or can be outright deadly if improperly handled.
Zinc, chromium, beryllium copper alloy come to mind as some of the things I’ve had to watch out for when heating metals to the point they give off fumes.
Stay safe, have fun and know your safety issues.
Thanks for mentioning my stainless steel welding guide. I hope it helps keep makers healthy!
