I love Cory Doctorow’s droll description of this creation almost as much as I love the thing itself:
This handy gentleman has built an (arguably ill-conceived, but nevertheless impressive) rifle-cum-slingshot that fires machetes, should you find yourself with the need to fire machetes.
The handy gentleman in question is YouTuber Jörg Sprave, slingshot enthusiast par excellence. He blogs about it here. [via Boing Boing]

Some people have too much time on their hands.

If makers didn’t have “too much time on their hands,” you’d probably have to work twice as hard, without the tools and technology used in your landscaping business.
I’m just waiting for the machete-slinging Gatling gun. Now THAT would be SOMETHING.
“What’re you up to, kids?”
Or maybe a machete-slinging lawn mower?
or maybe a low-mover-slinging-sling-shot-rifle-cum-(Completely useful/less(depending who your are(i find it useful on many levels)and how you’d use it) machine)
Looks Safe
I’m am so going to build this in preparation for the zombie apocalypse… I feel safer already! Thank you Joerg Sprave, you’ve saved us all.

There is not a single chance of something going tragically wrong here.
Me like. Way too cool, thanks for sharing this!
rifle-cum? wtf?
Heheh – it’s Latin!
cum [kʌm] – prep
used between two nouns to designate an object of a combined nature – eg. a kitchen-cum-dining room.
[Latin: with, together with, along with]
Awesome! it appears to have an effective range of about five feet against cardboard.
He was that close so you would be able to see the crossbow and the target at the same time. He couldn’t stand too far away, because if the guy holding the camera was near the target, then he would die if the crossbow misfired. He already got cut. There’s a reason for everything, so if you don’t know it, then don’t be such a dumbass shitface.
You take things way too seriously. chill out.
bullshit! take a look at the tumble on that thing, the only thing this guy is prepared for is a cardboard apocalypse.
Actually Jeff, with the (optional) peep sight that distance is almost doubled to 3yds and with the right ammo (machete long range) the effective range goes out to 10 feet. Do some research dumbass shitface.
ROFL! I love you James.
Definitely part of my zombie apocalypse arsenal. Make some smaller ones that shoot steak knives, just gotta put a repeating mechanism and we could have a semi-automatic knife gun.
Shoot darts with a slingshot–watch your hand, though.
the person you shoot this at would catch it in midair and chop your arm off lol..
No need to worry about the zombie apocalypse then!
He scares me lots..
Sweetness. I’ll take two.

something tells me on 3:46 that cut on his forearm is from a machete.
I drove a Sebastopole neighbor kid to the hospital recently. I was working in the yard and Heard a horrid scream. He had Built a this F*****g Death machine from Makezine. What the F*** is wrong with you O’riley?
jason would have loved this
this thing is so awesome
This guy is seriously wearing an “E-SPIRIT” t-shirt.
What’s kind of disturbing is that the machete being launched looks like it has dried blood on it:/
Before you go knocking this specific design, check out some of Jörg’s other designs. Some are downright frighteningly effective, some are very innovative, some are really just there to be fun, but they’re all awesome.
Ever seen that video of the woman trying to launch a watermelon…
This is hands down the most retarded thing I have ever seen. I guess if your target is always two yards away and made out of cardboard you may have a chance of pissing it off. If you manage to hit it that is.
i liked this before i watched the video, it just looks cool
this guy looks like my cousin Eddie.
this guy looks like my cousin Eddie.
jason has a new weapon to kill with
He is that guy in your neighborhood
