Here’s a downloadable card we put together of some of the best content from our Tips My Dad Says collection. Why not print out some copies on card stock and give one to dad (and the other makers in your life)? And print one for yourself and post it in your work area or slot it into the back of your Maker’s Notebook. The PDF is available here [PDF, 48K].

re: Alden Hart. When MBAs run the company, it’s time to leave.
And if you ever hear the term “maximizing shareholder value”, it’s time to update your resume and start looking for a company that’s *doing* something.
Dad’s always have the best advice. Even if all they say is: Shut up and give me a beer.
“No Cop-py, no stop-py” -learning to drive with Dad
My grandfather once said, “I was in the military, that’s enough service from our family, you joint the army I’ll kill you”
if you cant fix it. hit it with a hammer… if that didnt fix it find someone who can because all you did was put a dint in it…
Why “don’t tell your mom”? If your dad married someone he has to keep secrets from, what makes him so wise?

Mom’s worry, that’s why. I think you missed the joke in that one.
Is this a sexist joke? I think I’m in culture shock.

“life is a participation sport, not a spectator sport” The worst that can happen is you fail and that puts you in the majority!

here’s one from my dad-these are truly words of wisdom:
“if it don’t smell right, don’t eat it. and never stick your pecker anywhere you wouldn’t stick your tongue”.
Some of the best advice i got from my father (R.I.P.) are 1. Be honest no matter what. 2. Save at least 10% of your earnings. 3. Don’t ever argue with your wife in front of someone. 4. Don’t get the fanciest, get the best your money can buy.
“Ya gotta make it before you can spend it.” Needless to say, my dad wasn’t a politician or an investment banker.
My dad always said: Listen to what I mean, not what I say!
Actually I saw this one on TV and really liked it, “Treat everyone as a gentleman. Not because they are, but because you are.”
“You’re bored? There’s no such thing as bored, just a lack of imagination”
