Multicopters is an exciting new area of hobby robotics. They are also sometimes known as UAV’s, and essentially they are “flying hobby robots.”
They are made with a center that holds micro controllers, sensors, receivers, transmitters, power and payload. Pointing out from the center are a number of pins holding motors and propellers.
This is the first episode looking at multicopters, and Frits has a very advanced hexacopter in the air. Later episodes will look at products you can buy, and some cool cheap and less complex alternatives new on the market will be demonstrated.
Here are some inspiring links to other videos with other types of multicopters:

Would love to read some “getting started in Multicopters” articles; especially in regards to photography and videography.
Yea, that’d be cool. If you’re interested, I came across the Arduinocopter project (http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/) about a week ago and it seems to be a pretty slick package (hardware and software) for building the electronics for such a vehicle as well as the software to fly it with (fly-by-wire, autonomous autopilot, RC, video/audio transmission, etc.). I believe it’s being developed by the community over at diydrones.com.
Edit: I just wanted to mention that the software and hardware for the Arduinocopter project seems to, also, be designed to work with regular RC copters, RC planes, and RC gliders as well.

Here is a great website http://www.scoutuav.com for getting started in quadcopters.
Wow. I am impressed . Slightly jealous perhaps , i want one soo bad.
Thank you Frits. This video absolutely made my day!
Don’t you have any experience with https://www.mikrocontroller.com products? Especially Octo XL looks like nice way for DSLR aerial photography.

this is awesome!! this just made my morning. i’ve imagined something like this was possible but you made it even cooler with the VR glasses
If anyone is interested, I have posted some Arduino tutorials that can be found here:

The Arduino is great for making homemade robotics projects, and it is very simple and cheap to get started!
