Did you know that in 2011, eighteen independently produced Mini Maker Faires will have taken place around the United States, with another six produced internationally?

Mini Maker Faires are now in cities like Atlanta, Urbana, Fort Wayne, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Brighton (UK), and Oakland. Sponsored by fans of MAKE, CRAFT, and Maker Faire, Mini Maker Faires are like flagship Maker Faires — they are fun, inspire people to become makers, they help build local maker culture, and they showcase play and projects across disciplines. Mini Maker Faires are by nature smaller in scope, but each is unique to their community. They range in size from small, evening-only events, to two-day, full-featured festivals.

For 2012, we are working on Mini Maker Faire agreements with community groups in cities like Columbus, Chicago, Huntington Beach, Portland, Austin, Seattle, Orlando, Rochester, and more.

We’ve been receiving so much interest for our Mini Maker Faire licensing program, that we are hosting our second “How to Make a Maker Faire” workshop at the New York Hall of Science on Friday, September 16th from 10am – 1pm Anyone interested in bringing a Maker Faire to their town is welcome to register and encouraged to attend. And then, of course, stay to experience the wonders of World Maker Faire New York!

We’ll be offering backstage tours and other great opportunities to experience what it takes to create a Maker Faire. If this strikes a chord, read up and then sign up!

  1. Talk about a coincidence. I actually advocated for a Maker Faire to be held here, exactly as it happened last year. And will happen next weekend.
