The R2D2 Builder’s Club brings one of the world’s most beloved fictional robots to life. Steve Simmons and his hobby roboticist club use fabrication, programming, and remote controls to build exact replicas of R2D2. Their R2′s are quirky friends who roamed Maker Faire Bay Area 2011 delighting everyone they encountered.

    Now why didn’t they visit the NYC one? I am relieved that those annoying pulse jet driven things were not present this year, but the R2D2 builders? They should have been.

    Just warms the cockles of my heart, R2D2 is so deeply embedded in my childhood that it’s almost a genetically predetermined response- See R2 unit, smile.  Can’t be helped. 

    Now if I can just build a 3d printer big enough to print all the parts….
