It’s uncanny how well even the simplest passive acoustic amplifier can improve the sound that emanates from tiny handset speakers. Even though I have yet to experience the pure acoustic awesomeness of the iBamboo from New York area Etsy member Anatoliy Omelchenko, I still find that the design compliments the elegance of the iPhone 4. Produced from a single bamboo segment and finished with a black lacquer coating, the iBamboo passively amplifies handset audio when placed in the recessed dock.

Thank you, Adam, for this lead.
Open question for you or other MAKErs: Does anyone know how the iBamboo’s sound quality compares to this acoustic dock (also featured on this blog)? http://www.etsy.com/listing/73558164/iphone-acoustic-dock-maple?ref=pr_shop
Thanks in advance!
Interesting – I often cup my hand behind my phone to deflect more of the sound forward. A good home-made version might work with a piece of PVC pipe.
The PVC might add a hollow curve to the mid-range frequencies. The bamboo has a natural resonance the makes a robust sound throughout ranges.

I placed my iPod in the window track of the front room window. It filled the entire room with good quality sound. I believe the track coupled the window panel to the speaker so that the entire window acted as a passive speaker.
