Adding heat will solve the breaking process. Keys are brass so even low heat from a pipe torch will make a huge difference in bending with cracking or breaking.
There was a conversation about using heat in the Reddit comments and I meant to include that point in the blog post, but somehow it slipped my mind. Thanks for mentioning it, I’m sure that will be very helpful to people who want to try something like this.
