I really dig novel uses of display technology like Skot Croshere’s DigitGrid. It uses 517 seven-segment displays controlled by a Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA to play animations. Skot fully documented the build and even posted the schematics, PCB layout, and code. His future plans for the project include adding more digits, computer-free playback, and an interactive mode.
