Redditor Tye recently posted a set of photos of a handcrafted shave stand that his friend welded together out of a set of gears:

I just got started into the wet shaving hobby; all of my kit came in this week. As I looked at the brush out in my garage I saw my recently removed spider gears from my 1987 Toyota 4Runner. The brush was a perfect size to fit in the center axle splined hole of the larger spider gear. My good friend who does a ton of fabricating was over and I asked him if he could somehow weld the gears into a little tree to hold my stuff. He said that he had a leftover pinion from when he rebuilt his rear axle and he would bring it over for us to mock it up which is the second, third, and fourth pictures in the album.

The spider gears were the base of the idea, then we added the pinion as a stand, later my buddy found some worm gears out of a transfer case one of which he welded to the bottom of the pinion for a more stable base. The small worm gear on the top of the pinion is the other one more for good looks than anything.

The shave stand can even be disassembled. According to Tye, “it would be convenient for traveling if the thing didn’t weigh 25 lbs!”
