HOW TO – Make a 100 page notebook

Chebang writes – “I am so tired of paying for a new notebook. I never find exactly what I want. I run through about one notebook per month and I’d rather spend that money on a great new pen. So I thought, why not make my own? This tutorial will show you how to make your own notebook using an old record album cover, but any cardstock or heavy paper will work fine as a cover. I just like to use recycled materials in my creations, when it’s possible…”Link.

wow, I’m all for making stuff yourself, but this is too much work for something that can be purchased for $0.50…

I would hope this is more about enjoying crafting than trying to save money on notebooks :)

Great project. For a few extra steps to turn that notebook into a hardcover, see my Olde-School Bookbinding article in Make:05.

$.50 for a cheap notebook, sure, but have you seen the price of journals. I agree, you have to love to craft to make this, but you can also add exactly what you want to it and make it look the way you want.

I imagine this targets Moleskine-type notebooks more than Mead spiral notebooks.

honey, there are a whole slew of people that have sacred notebooks. Look into “moleskine”. I think this project will add value to anything that lies within the pages of this great notebook. I think you should make a stencil and make the cover look like street art. Cheers to you.

Although that can be purchased for $0.50…

Paper for a quality DIY notebook isn’t cheap. You can save some money if you get packs of paper on clearance or non-glossed printer paper. The glossed stuff will gunk up fountain pens. The local independent copy shop will also carry some interesting paper. Don’t forget to pull out unused sheets from old notebooks, too.

    Craft on.
