Our pal Jimmy DiResta just posted this video of him creating a hiding place for a handgun inside of an old hardbound book. We’ve covered these book safes in the past, usually made by cutting out the hiding compartment with the book still intact. Jimmy disbinds the book, creates a cutting jig, and then cuts the shape out on a bandsaw. He used this to create a gun “safe,” you can obviously cut out any shape you want. Mister Di gets extra style points for using a book entitled Security Analysis.

I’m not knowledgeable about guns but is pulling it out by tugging around inside the trigger guard the best way to handle this? Might be better to sacrifice an exact outline and give yourself some convenient gripping spots rather than risk pulling the trigger.

IT should have been cut out larger in a couple of places for finger grabs. I would have also cut out larger to fit felt in around the gun to protect the finish. Still a lot easier way of making the gun book. Although I cringed a lot when he was poking fringers near the band saw blade.. safety first!

Gonna need a specialized gun that doesn’t require a thumb or forefinger to operate if he keeps sticking his fingers within 1/2″ or less of the blade to remove waste bits. made me just CRINGE.
