Spikenzie Labs’ latest kit, the Music Game, is a great beginning soldering project that’s also fun (and addicting) to play. Solder up the components, then challenge yourself to press the button that corresponds to the note being played. It’s very similar to “Simon” type kits but instead of being visual, it’s audio based. The kit is reprogrammable so you can input your own tune then hand it off to a friend (and vice versa). An ATmega328 with the Arduino bootloader serves as the brains of the kit making it completely reprogrammable using the Arduino IDE.

The Music Game Kit is a great way to fight off boredom on those long road trips and is as challenging as you’d like it to be. You can pick one up right now from the Maker Shed.
