Travis Feldman received twice his funding goal on Kickstarter for his cool Molecule Synth, an electronic musical instrument that comes with various hardware modules that you can connect together to create new sounds. You can check it out at Maker Faire New York.

The Molecule Synth offers the elemental components of a traditional keyboard synthesizer — a speaker & amp, a sound generator, and a pitch controller — but presents those elements as pieces that you arrange (and rearrange!) in various combinations to create your own musical device.

Molecule Synth: An Electronic Musical Instrument for Everyone

My project is a physical electronics synthesizer and experimenter's design set. It is musical instrument made up of discrete hexagon shaped components that fit together with Lego-like interchangeability, allowing the user to design the sounds that the instrument makes (choose between and freely mix together the sounds of digital oscillators, analog oscillators, and Arduino MIDI synths) as well as the means by which the instrument makes those sounds (choose flex sensors, photo sensors, pressure sensors, and joysticks).
