NYC Resistor’s DomeStar project looks like a great display to show off at events! (It’s already appeared at the Open Hardware Summit, Burning Man, and Maker Faire, among others) It’s a sixteen-foot dome covered in LED strips, with every one of the 6,400 LEDs individually addressable. See the project page for cool information about the custom boards and animation software the group developed to make this happen.

One Response to DomeStar, a 6400-LED Geodesic Dome

  1. My opinion, but this looks terrible.. I LOVE the use of LED’s as much as possible, but this looks like it took absolutely no thought process whatsoever.. – Buy a whole heap of LED strips, drape them over a dome, roughly get the spacing right, and done.. There’s even excess curled up at the base of every strip..

I would love to see the LED’s actually spaced out on the dome as (near) perfectly as humanly possible, then it would look much better, I think.
