Looking for Makers in San Francisco

I’m crossing the bridge to San Francisco tomorrow to meet with artist Phil Ross, but I’m hoping to connect with another maker or two. Anyone got any ideas? In particular, I’d like to meet up with makers who are making the transition from part-time, amateur maker to maker pro. I’m also interested in checking out cool hackerspaces and makers who work in food, urban agriculture, and sustainability. Taco truck recommendations are welcomed, too. Please send suggestions my way in the comments below.

If you are crossing the Bay Bridge from Oakland, there is an interesting Hackerspace along the way on Treasure Island. I’m new to the Bay area, but a local friend introduced me to Treasure Island last weekend, and we found some pretty amazing projects going on in a nondescript warehouse called “Building 2″. From the outside it looks like an old airplane hanger (the Island is mostly converted Navy buildings and barracks). But inside there are many large-scale projects, sculptures, and vehicles. Many still have the desert dust from Burning Man. Definitely worth a look. If you have trouble finding it through my description, here are the GPS coordinates: 37.81851, -122.36779
